The Changes at Halfords

Halfords change small car service costs

Halfords Autocentres has lowered their prices for small car servicing. The entry level for a small engined car of 1300cc or less, now has an entry level servicing price of £79 with a 12 month or 12000mile guarantee for customers with smaller engines. This is a big change from the previous entry price of £199. We at VRI Gap Insurance believe that this change at Halfords may be the spark between competition.

This change comes about as the SMMT (Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders) reported a strong growth in the mini and supermini market. Throughout 2013, more people are opting for smaller and more frugal cars. This popularity is more obvious in the used car market with small cars now in short supply due to high demand. This new popularity has pushed up their values in the car market. The best-selling model for the year-to-date has been reported as the Ford Fiesta.

The Ford Fiesta model is also set to face a whole host of competition in the near future with a number of manufacturers looking to rival the small supermini model with their own 1.0 litre engine. The Ford brand have recently decided to add the successful model into the US manufacturer line up for the first time since the Fiesta flopped a number of years ago. The Mini brand are also ready to re join the market with the new model in 2014 which should rival the latest Kia editions as well as the updated engine options at the Ford manufacturer.

Halfords’ comments

The marketing director for the Halfords company, Rory Carlin, had this to say, “Rising fuel prices and the recession have driven up demand for cars with smaller engines, while also fuelling a rise in the number of people skipping essential car maintenance in an attempt to save money.” He then goes o0n to warn that, “Ignoring or putting off servicing is a false economy because it increases the risk of potential damage to a vehicle and the likely repair costs to rectify it.” On Halfords’ new pricing he commented that, “We believe our new price structure makes doing the right thing for your car even better financial sense. We believe that value and excellent service are not mutually exclusive.”
