The new 2015 WRX STI model, formerly known as the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, from the popular Japanese car brand is to come to the UK. The Subaru UK group have decided to bring a ‘limited number’ into the country and when it arrives it will be the only rally-style car available to buy in the UK since the Mitsubishi Evo disappeared.
The Subaru WRX STI specs
The Subaru model is powered by an inter-cooled 2.5 litre four cylinder turbocharged 300 brake horse power engine that provides 290lb/ft of torque and the gearbox is a parallel linkage six-speed manual with an optional short throw.
Fuel economy is set at 19mpg, with atop speed of 160mph. The Subaru model’s 0-62mph time is 5.1 seconds.
The Subaru WRX STI styling and tech
At the front of the vehicle, the bonnet, bumpers, doors and lights are all new while at the back there is the trademark huge boot spoiler and diffuser. The wheelbase of the model has been made an inch longer while the side sills have been lowered and the door openings made wider. Other key changes include the front A-pillar’s base being eight inches further forward giving the vehicle a more raked windscreen and the more recessed bonnet air intake which help improve forward vision.
The chassis has been made stiffer, with everything from the springs, dampers, control arms and attachment points being beefed up substantially. This makes the Subaru STI model 24% more roll-resistant than before.
Inside the car, there is a new flat-bottomed steering wheel, revised seats with separate and adjustable headrests as well as a reasonable stereo system. Despite the changes, the inside is still tailored more towards functionality than comfort.Active Torque Vectoring is in place, braking he inside front wheel to help the car round corners. It has three modes; normal (everything on), traction (reduces intervention) and off (disengages system). Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) is also added, a mechanical and electronic differential working together to direct power where needed. This system also measures steering angle, lateral g, RPM and several other details before making decisions. It can be switched between six manual levels and three auto modes. With these perfect attributes combined we believe that this addition to the Subaru range will prove to be a great rival for other car brands such as the likes of,Audi and BMW and other top brands like Mercedes.
A new 13 inch Brembo brakes and Brembo Performance Brake System is fitted to the new model, to reduce understeer.
The Japanese carmaker’s 2015 Subaru WRX STI model starts from around £28,000.
